Lash lifts have quickly become one of the most in-demand and trendy beauty treatments– and it’s not hard to see why. The results are so subtle yet striking, giving your lashes a gorgeous lift without the need for falsies or heavy makeup. It’s no surprise that so many celebrities and fashion influencers are choosing lash lifts as their go-to for an effortless, enhanced eye look.
At JL Beauty world, we get super excited when we see our clients– especially first-timers– come in curious and leave completely in love with their bright & lifted lashes. Whether you’re looking for a low-maintenance beauty routine or just want to add a little extra sparkle to your eyes, a lash lift is one of those small beauty tweaks that can make a big difference.
If you’ve been toying with the idea but not sure what to expect, don’t worry, we’re here to walk you through the entire process step-by-step so you’ll know exactly what to look forward to before you even settle into the chair.
What is an Eyelash Lift?
Before we begin, let’s introduce the basics. Think of a lash lift as a perm for your lashes– just more modern and way more gentle. A lash lift gives your natural eyelashes a beautiful curl and lift from the root, making them look longer, darker, and more defined.
The treatment uses a safe chemical solution to reshape the lashes, first a lifting lotion and then a setting lotion to set them in an upward and outward curve.
Prepping Tips After Booking the Lash Lift Appointment:
Once you’ve made up your mind and booked the appointment, here’s how you can get prepped:
1- Come with clean and washed lashes.
Skip any mascara, eyeliner, or any eye cream on the day of your appointment. Your lashes need to be squeaky clean so the lash tech can assess their natural state and the solution can work its magic.
2- Avoid Waterproof Mascara.
Avoid waterproof mascara for at least 48hrs before your appointment. It tends to leave residues that are harder to clean off completely.
3- Avoid Lash curlers.
Avoid curling your lashes at least a day before your visit. They need to be in their natural state for the best lift.
4- Take out your contact lenses.
Pop your contact lenses out before the treatment begins so you’re comfortable and safe. During the treatment, your eyes are closed for 45-60 minutes and there’s a possibility that slight pressure from silicone shields or minor product fumes may irritate the eyes or lenses.
5- If you’re dealing with an eye infection- reschedule.
Any infection– like conjunctivitis or stye or blepharitis- may get worse with added chemicals or even gentle manipulation around the eye. Plus, it’s not hygienic for the client or the salon so always wait until an eye infection is fully healed before getting a lash lift.
6- Spare Time
The whole process takes about 45-60 minutes so it’s a good idea to have your schedule relaxed before and after the appointment. This is your self-care moment, so come in with your errands sorted so you can just lie back, close your eyes, and truly enjoy the experience.
A Step by Step Walkthrough of Your First Appointment
First appointments at something you’ve limited idea of can be pretty intimidating. We want you to feel confident and safe during your lash lift treatment. Therefore, we’re sharing everything about what the experience looks like from start to finish.
1- Consultation
First things first, we’ll have a quick chat with you about what you need. You can tell us exactly what you want out of the treatment, whether it’s a subtle lift or something more dramatic. We’ll take a peek at your natural lashes to see what’ll work best on you.
We also ask about any eye sensitivities or allergies and your lash treatment history (any extensions or tints) just so we can avoid overprocessing.
2- Prepping Your Lashes
While we do advise our clients to come in with clean lashes, we still take measures. We help you sit comfortably in a recliner and gently cleanse your lashes to remove any makeup debris or oil.
3- Placement of a Shield
Once your lashes are clean and dry, we’ll ask you to gently close your eyes and begin by applying a soft silicon shield onto your upper eyelid. These shields come in different sizes and we’ll choose the one based on the kind of lift you’re going for.
Then, we’ll carefully lift and wrap your natural lashes over the shield using a bonding solution– this is what sets the stage for the perfect curl.
4- Lifting Solution
With your lashes in position, we’ll gently apply the lifting solution to the base of your lashes. This solution contains gentle perming agents (usually thioglycolic acid or something similar) to break down the bonds in your lashes just enough to allow us to reshape them .
It stays for about 10-12 minutes depending on your hair type. Don’t worry- you won’t feel anything uncomfortable. Your eyes will stay closed the whole time.
5- Setting Solution
Once the lift has done it’s magic, we remove the first solution and apply the setting lotion (usually a hydrogen peroxide-based neutralizer)
This helps to re-bond your lashes in their new, lifted shape and helps lock the curl. It’s left on for about another 10-12 minutes.
6- Tinting Your Lashes (Optional)
If you’ve chosen to add a lash tint (which we highly recommend for the extra spark) , this is when we do it. We’ll apply a semi-permanent dye to darken your lashes, giving a mascara illusion (without the smudge) . The tinting usually lasts for about 5-10 minutes and is completely safe for the eyes. You can choose the shade you want e.g deep black, dark-brown, or blue black etc.
7- Nourish & Finish
Once done, we’ll gently remove the shield and clean up any residue. Then, we’ll apply a nourishing serum to hydrate and strengthen your brand-new, lifted lashes. This keeps them healthy and shiny.
After Care for Lash Lift
The results of your lash lift will last several weeks but a little aftercare goes a long way. Here’s what to do (and avoid):
- Avoid steam and makeup for 24 hours. This is the most important window for setting the shape.
- Avoid rubbing or tugging your lashes. Try not to sleep with your face pressed to the pillow.
- Use oil-free removers and skin care around the eyes to help extend your results.

Not at all. Most people say it feels like lying back with your eyes closed– some clients even take a little nap.
